Google Search trends reveal high search queries for Oscars from India

With the 88th Academy Awards just concluding, there were a bundle of surprises and some deserved winners on the list. Understandably, fans in India were eager to know everything about how the annual awards ceremony went, which has been substantiated by Google Search trends.

It is revealed here that there was nearly a 70% increase in Oscars related searches coming from India compared to last year. This could most likely be due to Priyanka Chopra presenting one of the awards at the coveted annual event.

India ranked in the top 10 as far as Oscar related searches were concerned, which tells us about the hype surrounding Hollywood’s prestigious event. The nominees from all the top categories were heavily searched including Leonardo Di Caprio (Best Actor) and Cate Blanchett (Nominated for Best Actress).

Given the buzz surrounding the actresses’ Red Carpet attire, this attracted a lot of searches as well. Olivia Wilde, Priyanka Chopra, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Saoirse Ronan were the most searched in this segment. The top designers who were searched for during the 2016 Oscars were Valentino, Zubair Murad, Alexander McQueen, Tadashi Shoji and Calvin Klein.

While India only made up for 2% of the entire world, it’s baffling that the country still managed to make its way to the top 10. The United States generated the most searches with more than 50% of the search queries originating from there. The likes of UK, Canada, Australia and Spain made up for 30% of the searches pertaining to the Oscars.
