Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 2 Gets May Android Security Update: Reports

After conducting its first successful Nokia X6 sale in China, HMD Global is now rolling out the May security patch update for its Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 2 smartphones. Both the devices are getting an OTA update, so head to Settings to check if you’ve already received it or not. Nokia 8 Sirocco users in India are seeing the update, and Nokia 2 users in India and US are also seeing the security update.

Nokiapoweruser reports that the Nokia 2 (TA-1011, TA-1035) and Nokia 8 Sirocco (TA-1005) smartphones are both getting the May security updates. This comes after the update was rolled out to Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018). The Nokia 8 Sirocco update weighs at 82.5MB, and the Nokia 2 update weighs at 88MB. The rollout may be happening in phases, so be patient if you don’t see it yet.

Ensure that you have a strong Wi-Fi connection and good battery life before installing the update. You can check the availability of the fresh update by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates. It is recommended to back up your data before proceeding with the update process.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco price in India is set at Rs. 49,999. The single-SIM (Nano) Nokia 8 Sirocco runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, has a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) pOLED display, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The smartphone has a dual rear camera setup that has a primary 12-megapixel image sensor and a secondary 13-megapixel sensor. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel sensor with a fixed-focus lens, featuring f/2.0 aperture. The Nokia 8 Sirocco has 128GB of onboard storage that is not expandable. On the connectivity front, the smartphone has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It packs a 3260mAh battery and measures 140.93×72.97×7.5mm.

Launched in October last year, the Android Nougat-based Nokia 2 sports a 5-inch LTPS HD (720×1280 pixels) display and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera sensor with an LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor. Besides, it packs a 4000mAh battery that is touted to deliver up to two days of power on a single charge.
