The CEO and co-founder of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk has just announced that the Model 3 electric car will be coming to India.
On 31st March, Elon Musk tweeted that the Model 3 electric car will be coming to “India, Brazil, SA, SK, NZ, Sing, and Ireland.” But it should be noted that this announcement is conspicuously close to April 1st, a day well known by pranksters the world over.
Although Musk has been pushing to make electric cars mainstream for a while now, he even freed up all of Tesla Motors patents, a few years ago.
Unveiled at Tesla’s Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, on March 31, the electric car is the company’s pitch to middle-class drivers.
The Model 3 will cost $35,000 (approximately Rs 23,24,500) for the base model and is set to release in 2017.
The car is expected to go 0-60MPH in less than 6 seconds (with other versions going much faster) and be able to travel 215 miles (346 kilometers) with a single charge but the company hopes to increase those numbers once in its final version.
