For those of you who either live under a rock or just don’t give a f*ck about the Kardashian clan, The paternal Jenner parent made news throughout 2015 for undergoing a gender transition and changing his name from Bruce to Caitlyn.
From that day until now, Caitlyn Jenner has been pretty open about sharing her gender journey, including having a tell all E! show called I Am Cait (subsequently cancelled) and letting it be used as ‘story-line’ in several Kardashian seasons.
Early last year, MAC unveiled the Caitlyn Jenner inspired lipstick called Finally Free which was a gorgeous rosy nude cremesheen.
Some beauty lovers – like myself – loved it and bought it, never putting any thought into the fact that it was a lipstick ode to Jenner’s new identity, more so because we just need every lipstick.
However, this year MAC unveiled their Caitlyn Jenner collection and all hell has broken loose on Instagram.
To copy and paste the comments without their permission would be a shit*y move so I won’t do that but I can list the 25 most popular responses to the news:
- No
- Eww
- Won’t be buying that
- LOL how can I buy her makeup when someone else does her (slightly valid point, no shade)
- Put off your product forever
- I think I have to stop using MAC
- The colours are awful

- Aaliyah for MAC would be better (agree)
- No thanks
- I don’t care about the collection, I care that she/her is a murderer and got away with it

- I DEFINITELY WON’T BE BUYING THIS (yes all caps)
- Oh God
- I will never ever buy MAC products ever again
- RuPaul only got a lipstick and she did way more for the community
- I’m not gay bashing, it’s just weird
- This is all types of wrong
- I support LGBTQ rights but not Caitlyn Jenner as she doesn’t do anything for the community
- I’m nauseous
- I’M DONE WITH MAC (more caps)
- Disappointed
Oh and special shoutout to this comment: ‘how does she get boobs if she was a mab [sic]’.
As of 21 hours ago by MAC’s time stamp, they have racked up an enormous 869,420 views and nearly 3000 comments.
Some of these comments are sadly, just what you’d expect to read online.
Whether it’s 2017 or 2089, there will always be people who are against everything you do and are more than happy to tell not only you, but the whole world what is wrong with you.
Some are of course are comments full of love for Caitlyn finally being free to be herself.
We must stress that we are not saying that we do not understand those who feel that she hasn’t been a LGBTQ activist for long enough or that she doesn’t do anything at all. What we are saying is that those who are against it just because she’s transgender and they are against it, aren’t right.
As someone who has just told her mother that she’s in a very happy relationship with another woman, I know what it’s like to finally feel free.
Though I am surprised they didn’t pick RuPaul to have an entire collection before Caitlyn. Ru is one of the most iconic names in both the drag and LGBTQ communities, having worked tirelessly for gay rights for years… AND was the face of MAC VIVA Glam back in 1994.
Still, not buying MAC’s line because you don’t like that ‘Caitlyn’ used to be ‘Bruce’, is ridiculous.
It’s almost as ridiculous as thinking your choice to boycott MAC products will result in a personal, handwritten letter begging you for your forgiveness.
MAC won’t miss you nor does it make you look good to spew hate on or offline, so maybe just quietly stop buying MAC and slip away.
For those getting all angry, hot and bothered, maybe chill out a bit?
If it helps, I’ve heard buying makeup gives you the same endorphin release that exercise does.*
*That’s a lie. I’m just an addict.
