MAC finishes second at Corn Palace Invite

The Mitchell Aquatic Club performed well in its home pool.

MAC ended up taking second place with 855.50 team points at the Corn Palace Invite, which concluded on Sunday at the Mitchell Aquatic Center. Sioux Falls won the nine-team event with 1,374 team points.

Individually, MAC had two swimmers—Ethan Plamp and Christian Stange—score the most points in their respective age group. Plamp recorded 58 points in the 8 & under boys division, while Stange led the 9-10 boys group with 72 points. Caleb Swanson had the second-most points in 15 & over boys division, while Sophia Huber and Lucie Anderson also had second-most point totals for 9-10 girls and 15 & over girls, respectively.

MAC won one relay—the 13 & over boys 200 freestyle—with a team of Swanson, Gray Determan, Jakob Studer and Christian Fossum recording a time of 1 minute, 53.09 seconds.

On Sunday, MAC combined to win 10 individual events.

Plamp won the boys 8 & under 200 freestyle (3:35.39), 100 breaststroke (2:21.81) and 50 freestyle (43.91), while Stange won the boys 9-10 200 freestyle (3:10.55), 100 butterfly (1:41.04), 50 backstroke (44.73) and 50 freestyle (38.99). Brock Russell won the boys 9-10 100 breaststroke (1:46.24).

In girls events, Anderson won the girls 15 & over 100 backstroke (1:13.02) and Huber won the girls 9-10 100 breaststroke (1:40.97).

On Saturday, MAC had swimmers win 11 events.

Plamp won the boys 8 & under 50 butterfly (1:04.20) and 50 breaststroke (1:05.16), while Stange won the boys 9-10 butterfly (41.03), 100 backstroke (1:37.25) and 100 freestyle (1:25.53). Jordan Herrlein won the the boys 9-10 50 breaststroke (57.54)

In the boys 15 & over 400 individual medley, Swanson edged teammate Fossum for first place. Swanson finished with a time of 5:17.19, while Fossum, who took second, ended with a 5:23.91. Fossum went on to win the 200 backstroke (2:28.21), while Swanson placed second (2:35.67).

In girls races, Sophia Huber won the girls 9-10 50 breaststroke (47.64) and 100 freestyle (1:25.70). Lucie Anderson won the 200 backstroke in the girls 15 & over with a time of 2:39.21
